If you are considering concrete as a design common denominator, white+reid can facilitate the concrete design, construction, placement and finishing of all architectural concrete features. Our experience with concrete clearly demonstrates that it can work in harmony with both new build and renovation projects.
Concrete works perfectly with underfloor heating and the thermal mass of concrete makes for a very efficient heating system. It can also be combined with high performance sealants for wetroom floors and walls.
Concrete countertops can incorporate any kitchen design and appliance to an extremely high specification and finish. Upstands can also be incorporated, framing units within a continual flow of concrete. In the same way, concrete fireplaces and hearths, concrete staircases, concrete furniture and other architectural concrete elements can be produced to give a continual flow through the home, office or work environment.
white+reid create concrete floors of any size using hand or power trowels and the concrete is consolidated to a very smooth, hard wearing compact surface. We utilise vibrant dry shake pigments on floors and these pigments are designed for use in industrial environments, adding great strength to the concrete surface. They are also an economical method of pigmenting ordinary portland cement.
Control joints are designed into floors to help minimise cracking. These joints can be separated by strips of stainless steel, copper, brass or glass. Joints can also be placed 'cold' allong for small natural hairline cracks to occur. Alternatively, a floor can be left without any control joints, thus allowing natural hairline cracking to occur. Cracks in concrete are a natural way of relieving stress and are not structural. They embellish the aesthetic but can also be hidden if required.
Concrete should be decided upon at the planning stage structural slabs can be poured and finished in one process, instead of tipping an existing slab laid by the general contractor.
