FAQs+Floors

How does white+reid make a polished concrete floor?

Our concrete floors are a minimum of 100mm thick. The concrete is poured by hand or pumped into place. We finish the floor using a power trowel which gives the concrete a smooth, hard, dense surface with a subtle sheen. white+reid floors can be polished to a high gloss shine or waxed, if desired. The surface is then sealed with a high quality penetrative sealer.

What choice of colours and pigments does white+reid offer for polished concrete floors?

If a concrete floor is hand batched, then the variety of colours and tones that can be produced are similar to that of polished countertops / worktops. Standard grey cement based floors can be pigmented with dry shake colour hardeners, although the palette is limited to that of the manufacturer. Standard grey floors offer in our opinion the best overall results and can be lightened to a cool off-white tone using a recycled product called GGBS.

How long do I have to wait before I can walk on a concrete floor?

You can walk on a white+reid concrete floor the next day but, until the concrete has cured and been sealed, it needs to be covered and protected.

How much does polished concrete floor cost?

It depends very much on the size of the floor, specification, access and location. Polished concrete floors cost from £60 to £400 per square metre. This may appear a wide variation, but there are many factors that impact the final price. Please send a dimensioned plan to info@whiteandreid.co.uk so that we can provide a price guide.
